Beyond the Lens: My Creative Projects
While photography is a passion, I also explore my creativity through a variety of other artwork. My projects include sewing, crochet, drawing, and painting, alongside my commitment to recycling and repurposing items. A specialty of mine is converting vintage fur coats into unique blankets and pillows. Below, you can explore several of my past creations.
Historical Costuming (SCA)
I am an active member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), a medieval reenactment group, where I indulge my passion for costuming. While my primary focus is on Pirate and Egyptian garb, I enjoy creating a wide variety of pieces, including custom tops, bottoms, and elaborate cloaks.
Recycle and Reuse!
I love working with leather and fur, so I bought a Techsew fur sewing machine. I decided to start recycling used fur coats into blankets and pillows. I buy the coats at thrift shops, antique stores, and garage sales, then take the coats apart and start creating. Below are some examples that Ive done.
Hand-Painted History: Medieval Scrollwork
As an artist within the SCA, I help bring recognition to deserving members by creating the award scrolls. I specialize in the illumination (the painted artwork), carefully crafting each design before it receives its final calligraphy. These personalized pieces are then awarded at our events. Most of these are not free-hand, but tracing was period-correct! A gallery of my completed scrolls is available below.
Other Random Projects
More photos of more things I do! Altered a wedding dress, my first quilt, some messenger bags (one from all the scrap pieces), an Egyptian headpiece, a cloak for a skeleton plushie, embroidery, and my cat Bob helping do some sewing.
Cool Craniums
This is the website where I create, recycle, and sell all sorts of "weird stuff". Animal skulls, art made from bones, framed insects, skull and pirate toys, and other fur and leather items. Check out my other site at CoolCraniums.
